The Restoration of Château de Villette Park

The historic park of Château de Villette is undergoing a significant restoration project, designed to preserve its cultural heritage while ensuring its vitality for generations to come. Under the direction of the estate’s head gardener, Aivars Zvīdris, this initiative combines respect for tradition with a forward-looking vision of sustainability.

A central aspect of the work is the careful clearing of overgrown woodland areas. Over time, natural processes had allowed vegetation to expand unchecked, obscuring historic sightlines and diminishing the harmony of the original landscape design. The selective removal of dead and weakened trees, along with dense undergrowth, is restoring both light and balance to the park’s historic vistas.

At the same time, new trees are being planted with great care. The chosen species reflect both the historical identity of the estate and the ecological conditions of today. These plantings serve not only to re-establish the park’s classical structure, but also to foster biodiversity and ensure the long-term health of its natural environment.

The restoration is carried out in close consultation with experts in landscape architecture and heritage preservation, drawing on historical plans and archival materials. This approach ensures authenticity while integrating modern standards of environmental stewardship.

The work at Château de Villette represents more than a practical intervention in the landscape – it is an investment in cultural memory and natural vitality. As the park regains its original character, it once again becomes a place of harmony, inspiration, and reflection, where history and nature coexist in a timeless dialogue.
